Coil method

My first ever ceramic project was a vase with multiple sections that turned out significantly better than expected.

Using the bonding, flat and compression pinches to build a solid foundation and subsequent thickness, texture and shapes of clay in myriad varieties. I truly could have worked on this for days without stopping.

Materials used: potter’s clay, loop tool, ribbon tool, potter’s rib, wood modeling tool, sponge, scraper, wire clay cutter

Slab method

The assignment for this project was to create a box or some sort of container, with a lid or otherwise removable piece,and flatten seven slabs of clay. Each piece was then trimmed to form a rectangle shape.

“The Wheel”

I was warned by my professor that the wheel could be exceptionally frustrating.

…and he was not wrong.

Regardless, I did my best to maneuver the clay to the best of my ability and create the following:

• Bowl with textured ridges outside
• “Weird” bowl
• Asymmetrical bowl
• Incense burner (with divots for Tarot cards)
