Epiphanies

Have you ever had those lightbulb moments when you see something and from that moment on, you can’t unsee it? And sometimes it takes a minute (or day or week) to sink in but once it does, HOLY FREAKING HELL.

I’ve been slacking a little in posting and the newsletter this month. However, it IS with good reason! A couple weeks ago I went to the first Create & Cultivate Small Business Summit in NYC, and it has irrevocably changed the way my mind is thinking about my business. I heard a crap ton of wildly successful women talk about their businesses, as well as women who are starting out just like me and face the same challenges in growing a business.

I’m the type of person who (usually) needs to let certain ideas and circumstances marinate and process, and only then can I truly realize what my reaction is to it. I feel as though I’ve had quite a few of those in 2019. If I had to describe this year, in one basic theme I think it would be,

::forehead slap:: “OH MY GOD!”

And I have to say that I get more of those moments, more confidence and more assurance that I’m on to something as I have more and more of these moments. I still look at job openings in other companies and while some of them look truly interesting, I get this gut feeling that I’m exactly where I need to be and that this exact scenario I find myself in IS the opportunity I should be exploring.

Okay Hillary, what’s your point? you may be wondering.

I’m glad you asked! My point is that I will probably be slowing down on blog entries, newsletters, and likely social media action through the end of the year while I gear up for what I want to unveil in the new year. I’m really excited about it, but I’m also really nervous that I will lose support from some folx. Regardless, I’ve turned a corner and I absolutely can not go back.

I will likely be a little absent while I prepare for the New Year but ultimately, I’m not going anywhere.

In friendship and cheesecake,

Are you in need of some tools to get you out of a funk, or at least moving toward reframing your goals with a positive mindset?

Here’s what I’ve been doing what has helped me more than I will ever be able to describe:*

  • Listen to the Awesome With Alison (and Eric, too!) podcast (free!)

    • So many topics are covered in this podcast, and it’s totally applicable. If nothing else, it helps you to flip your thinking and give you a more positive perspective.

  • Marie Forleo’s Everything Is Figureoutable

    • This isn’t just a book; it has action items to implement into your daily life once you finish reading or listening to it Seriously, I implemented them before I went into that conference and it was SO HELPFUL.

    • DO THE INSIGHT TO ACTION items. It will help.

  • MarieTV (free!)

    • There are so many freaking topics covered in these episodes. She’s very optimistic, and the points she makes are very comprehensive.

I am truly, truly grateful to be where I am currently in terms of my mental health. I’ve not been in such a good space in a very long time, and I so wish more people could have this experience. This is what I want for you. If the tools above don’t work for you I encourage you to explore other avenues (heck, try a positive thinking group like Rose!) and do whatever you can because this is your life. Please don’t want for a month from now, a year from now or “some day.”

*These tools may not be for everyone. Lots of folx have very different life circumstances and injustices to overcome. As a cis, white woman I am able to relate very much to a lot of what is presented. This isn’t to say that folx at the intersection of a myriad identities may not be able to find nuggets or tools to apply to their own life. However, I want to acknowledge the limitations that may exist for some folx. However, on MarieTV she definitely tries to interview a wide variety of folks. That might be the most relatable tool for some.

Or maybe not, and you can just tell me to f*ck off.
